Pick the rear hub for $200 less and a simpler drivetrain. Rear-hub motors push the rear wheel directly. They are quieter, less mechanically complex, and easier to service. The 1000W rated figure is on paper bigger than the mid-drive's 750W.

Pick the mid-drive for steep hills, technical singletrack, and longer real-world range. Mid-drive motors push through the bike's chain and gears, so a low gear gives the motor a mechanical advantage on a climb. The torque sensor on the Hero's mid-drive option also provides proportional pedal assistance that feels more like a normal bicycle.

If most of your route is flat to rolling pavement and gravel, the rear hub is the right call. If your route includes consistent steep grades, loaded riding, or technical mountain-bike trails, the mid-drive is worth the $200.

The step-over frame is the traditional mountain bike triangle: top tube runs straight from the head tube to the seat tube. It is the stiffest layout and the lightest. Best for riders comfortable swinging a leg over the saddle, and for technical trail use where frame stiffness matters.
