Heybike Hybrid Class 2/3 Electric Commuter Bike

The Hybrid fits a real commute: paved bike lanes, multi-use paths, suburban streets and campus loops, about 5 to 15 miles a day. The KENDA tires roll easily on pavement, the Tektro hydraulic brakes feel steady on long descents, and the turn signals help in traffic.

Power comes from a 750W rear hub motor that peaks at 1200W, with 75 Nm of torque and a 28 mph top speed. A Class 2/3 switch sets the bike up for the rules where you ride. Class 2 (Eco) runs throttle and pedal assist up to 20 mph. Class 3 (Sport) runs pedal assist up to 28 mph. Many states require the throttle to stop at 20 mph in Class 3, and the Heybike app lets you set throttle and assist speeds.

The Shimano Altus 8-speed covers commuter needs: low gears for hills and stop-and-go traffic, high gears for flat cruising. The torque-plus-cadence sensor gives smoother assist than cadence-only bikes at this price.

The 100 mm hydraulic front fork softens cracked pavement, expansion joints and curbs. The 27.5 x 2.4-inch tires are commuter tires, not fat tires, so this is not an off-road bike. Typical 5 to 10 percent neighborhood climbs are well within its range.

An integrated 864Wh battery sits in the downtube. Heybike rates the 864Wh battery for up to 100 miles, tested with a 155 lb rider at the lowest assist level. A 180 to 220 lb commuter at higher assist on rolling roads should plan on 40 to 60 miles. Heavy throttle use cuts that further.

The Hybrid has the right parts for a U.S. commuter who cares about rules and quality. The Class 2/3 switch is rare at this price. UL 2849 and UL 2271 certification, Tektro brakes, a Shimano Altus 8-speed, KENDA tires, turn signals and an included rack make a strong commuter package.
