Electric bike range is the distance a seller says an electric bike can travel on one charge. These figures are usually maximum advertised claims, not standardized independent road-test results. This report analyzes what the US Amazon marketplace advertises and does not treat those claims as verified riding range.

We analyzed 599 unique Amazon.com listings. The median maximum advertised range across 438 listings with an extractable mileage claim is 70 miles. The middle half runs from 55 to 90 miles. The report includes the source coverage, extraction limits and a marketplace benchmark based on battery capacity.

How far can an electric bike go on one charge?

The median maximum advertised range is 70 miles on a single charge. The middle half of the distribution falls between 55 and 90 miles. A small group at the top claims 300 miles. A small group at the bottom claims under 15 miles. The full distribution is heavily concentrated in the 60 to 79 mile bucket.

What kinds of electric bikes does Amazon sell?

Title-keyword classification of all 599 listings places fat-tire products in the largest inferred category at 65% of listings. Folding, commuter and mountain terms form smaller groups. Categories are inferred from product titles, so a single listing can fit two buckets. Treat the chart as directional.

How we built this database

We sent ten product search queries to the DataForSEO Amazon Products API against the Amazon.com marketplace (location code 2840, language en_US, depth 100 results per query). The queries were chosen to cover the full e-bike category: electric bike for adults, fat tire electric bike, electric bike 750w, electric bike 1000w, long range electric bike, commuter electric bike, folding electric bike, step through electric bike, moped style electric bike, all terrain electric bike.

The raw response contained 1,178 product hits. We deduplicated by ASIN to 599 unique listings. Code extracted explicit motor wattage, battery voltage, amp-hours, watt-hours, mileage claims, top speed and price from listing text and structured fields. When a listing contained several mileage or wattage values, the analysis retained all extracted values and used the largest as the maximum advertised claim. Battery watt-hours were computed from voltage × amp-hours only when direct watt-hours were absent.

Limitations: Amazon search results are not the entire US e-bike market. Listings can combine variants, change after collection, use peak rather than nominal wattage and contain seller errors. Title-keyword categories are directional. We did not independently road-test the bicycles. The underlying marketplace records are retained for reproducibility but are not offered as a public download while redistribution rights are being reviewed.

What reduces real-world electric bike range?

Advertised range is produced under favorable conditions. Real distance is lower for almost every rider. The factors below are well-understood engineering effects rather than measurements from this dataset, which records seller claims only. They explain why two riders on the same bike report very different numbers.

How to estimate the range you will actually get

There is no substitute for measuring your own bike on your own route. This method takes one week and gives you a number you can trust more than any listing.

  1. Charge to full and record the starting state. Note the battery percentage or bar count.
  2. Ride your normal route in your normal assist mode. Do not ride gently to flatter the result. The point is to measure your real habits.
  3. Record miles ridden and battery consumed. A phone app or the bike display both work.
  4. Divide. Miles ridden divided by the fraction of battery used gives your projected full-charge range. Twelve miles on 40 percent of the pack projects to about 30 miles.
  5. Repeat across conditions. Run it once warm, once cold, and once loaded. The lowest number is the one to plan around.

Cold is the most commonly underestimated range factor. Lithium cells deliver less usable capacity at low temperatures, and the effect is temporary rather than permanent damage. A pack that feels weak on a freezing morning generally recovers its normal capacity once it returns to room temperature.

WINTER PRACTICE: Store the battery indoors rather than in a cold garage or shed. Fit it to the bike shortly before you ride. Charge it indoors at room temperature, and avoid charging a pack that is still very cold. Plan shorter winter trips and expect the display estimate to fall faster than it does in summer.
